90 Acre Maker Strong (Friends of Miller Community Support Fundraiser T) All Proceeds will go to the Miller Family

$30.00

On Saturday 10/8, at approximately 10:00 a.m, John was doing what he loved.....cutting trees on the front field of his property in Wardsboro Vt. He had his eyes on a huge cherry tree on the left side of the field, which was going to provide a few slabs for his furniture building projects.

The tree was already cut to the ground. The trunk was "Y" shaped, so even though it was on the ground, a significant portion of it still stood upright. While trying to fell the last piece, the trunk fell in an unexpected way and landed on him. He was not pinned, so he might tell you that it bounced off him. Nonetheless, the damage was significant. His injuries include a shattered femur, collapsed lung, broken vertebrae, and broken ribs. (All of the ribs....some broken in two places). There was no spinal damage or brain damage.
He was transported to the local health center by ambulance, then airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
On Sunday 10/9, surgery was completed to stabilize his femur. At the time he was intubated and heavily sedated.

Follow up surgery occurred today (10/13), with a second operation on his femur, and an operation to reset his ribs. Successful completion of this surgery will potentially lead to removal of the ventilator.

He remains in the ICU and will be there for the next few days at the least. Timelines are hard to come by for any of this, because everything is still very early on in the recovery process.

There is a long road ahead for the family, but there remains hope that John can recover. It is obviously going to be an extremely difficult road, and will take a long time.
